Copilot Web gets an Upgrade that Includes New Voices and Feature

Just a few days ago, rumors surfaced that the Copilot mobile app was set for a major update, transforming it more into a news anchor than an AI assistant. However, it seems the company had a surprise in store that no one anticipated. Practically overnight, without any notice, the web version of Copilot received a significant overhaul, introducing four new voices and a daily news feature.

Neowin was the first to spot the update, reporting that the redesign brings a "fresh, modern, and sleek user interface," and makes the platform "simpler than ever." The update includes both light and dark modes (named "Day" and "Night") and introduces new voices: Meadow, Wave, Grove, and Canyon.

The standout feature is the new "Copilot Daily," which summarizes news and updates for users, offering clickable links to read more from the original source. After delivering the news, Copilot Daily invites users to return the following day for another briefing.

Initially, it appeared that this news-centric focus was limited to the mobile app, which would have made sense, as phones are constantly on hand. Future plans could even involve Copilot delivering news alongside an alarm. But with the web version now receiving similar updates, it seems Microsoft is positioning Copilot as a general news aggregator. Whether this shift is due to its perceived strength in news delivery or to address lower-than-expected usage, remains unclear. It'll be interesting to see if these changes extend to the desktop version of the assistant as well.
